Guidance from the Board of Ordained Ministry

Two weeks ago, I went before the Board of Ordained Ministry for my ordination interview. After all the questions that they had for me, I had the opportunity to ask,

“What advice do you have for someone who is in his fourth year of ministry?”

I received some great responses.

  • Be open – You may use your strengths and weaknesses in ways that you would not have guessed.
  • Ministry will change.
  • God is not done with our church and you are part of the evidence of that.

I appreciate the wisdom of the board of ordained ministry

  1. That is both a great question and a great set of responses. I’m about to enter year 5 with some new possibilities and challenges…as well as the opportunity to reflect about the *continuing* call of God to holiness and ministry. Congrats again, and welcome to the covenant!

  2. Hey Andrew. I have enjoyed reading your posts. I am preparing for probationary membership in the Virginia Conference….I am still a little ways away from my BOM interview but I wanted to know after reading many of your answers to the questions was how were they received? Did they like your responses? Thanks and good luck!

    • Jason – Well, I am going to be ordained at annual conference this year. So, that’s a good sign. Honestly, I have no idea how different the board of ordained ministry operates in different locations. Most important is to be true to yourself both in paperwork and interviews. I hope that you find some inspiration from my work. Make sure and check the license at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/us/
